LAKE MACK, FLORIDA
Now known as the “Groundhog Day Tornadoes,”
the deadly storms of February 2nd changed lives forever.
Since last Tuesday, volunteers from at least eleven
CBF churches and a couple Presbyterian churches across
the state helped in Lake Mack, Bott’s Landing
and Deland, Florida. Some 90 volunteers put in almost
140 volunteer days for which I am thankful.
After careful consideration, thought, prayer and consultation
with others, CBF of Florida will halt our coordinated
effort of volunteer assistance after tomorrow, Wednesday,
February 14, 2007. This does not mean that we may learn
of other efforts that need our assistance, but for now,
we believe we have accomplished what we are capable
of in this event.
We have helped with receipt and delivery of donated
items, we have helped serve meals, we have helped remove
debris to help clear lots, we have helped weary residents
pack up belongings out of their damaged mobile home,
and many, many more things too numerous to remember.
Everyone modeled the presence of Christ to everyone
they met; they were flexible and so willing to do whatever.
Thanks to every volunteer and, of course, to everyone
who helped get the word out!
Thanks to the donations of cash that have come in to
the office in Lakeland thus far, and for that still
to come. We promise to be good stewards to pass it along
to help in this recovery effort. God led us to some
phenomenal partners that we worked with and partnered
with to channel the funds. We will give a more full
report of this later.
Pastors, Church Disaster Response Coordinators (CDRC’s),
DART volunteers, Representative Assembly members, and
others, THANK YOU for all you’ve done!
Because of HIM!
