Ray Johnson, Ph.D., Coordinator began serving as the Coordinator for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Florida in January 2007. Prior to that, he pastored churches in Miami, Florida (1998-2006) and South Carolina (1993-1998). From 1987-1993, he taught Old Testament and Hebrew at the Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary in Baguio City. Ray and his wife Nena (a native Floridian!) have two children, Matt and Holly. Ray enjoys his family, saltwater fishing, especially fly fishing, and reading. Email Ray.
Rachel Gunter Shapard, Associate Coordinator, is a native Floridian who began serving on the CBF Florida staff in June of 2012. Rachel has a B.A. in music from Florida State University and a Masters of Divinity with an emphasis in Christian Education from McAfee School of Theology. Rachel has served on staff at First Baptist Church of Tallahassee, Florida (1996-1998), Central Baptist in Newnan, Georgia (1999-2000) and First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Georgia (2000-2005). Rachel worked as a hospice chaplain for three years in Lubbock, Texas (2005-2008) and in social services as an Eldercare Advocate at Baptist Health in Jacksonville, Florida (2009-2012). She also served as Coordinator for Baptist Women in Ministry (2005-2007). Rachel and her husband, Tommy Shapard (Minister of Music and Worship at Hendricks Avenue Baptist) have three children, Drew, Kate and Mac. Email Rachel.
Melissa Rodriguez, Administrative/ Financial Secretary, was born and raised in Miami, FL. Melissa and her son Brandon moved to Lakeland in 2011. Before joining CBF FL in August 2016, Melissa was a Digital Court Reporter. She enjoys visiting Florida’s State Parks and walking the trails while her son searches for his dream pet, a two-headed turtle. One of her “bucket list” goals is to visit every State Park in Florida.
